EPrints → EPrints + Archivematica

University of Strathclyde & Concordia University

Recognising that storing research outputs in an institutional repository is not the same as actively preserving them, Concordia University in Canada and the University of Strathclyde in Scotland undertook a multi-year international collaboration. Beginning around 2018 and after roughly three years of development and testing, they released — in 2021 — an open-source plugin connecting the widely used EPrints repository to the Archivematica digital-preservation system, so that research outputs can be passed to Archivematica for OAIS-compliant preservation. A strong example of cross-border, community-driven middleware addressing a shared infrastructural problem in higher education.
