Siloed storage → Archivematica (Permafrost) + Dataverse

Scholars Portal (Ontario Council of University Libraries)

Scholars Portal, the technology service for the 21-member Ontario Council of University Libraries, launched 'Permafrost' — a hosted, multi-tenant digital-preservation service built on Archivematica — to help member universities meet research-data mandates. Subscribing institutions get dedicated Archivematica instances wired to the Ontario Library Research Cloud, a bit-level object store on OpenStack Swift. A notable achievement was a deep, API-driven integration between Archivematica and Dataverse: the pipeline polls Dataverse, pulls published datasets, and maps their DDI metadata straight into the Archivematica METS record, automating the path from publication to permanent preservation. A leading Canadian consortial research-data example.
