Adopted AtoM + Archivematica (Izolo)

University of Cape Town Libraries (Izolo)

University of Cape Town Libraries developed Izolo as a digital-preservation environment using Arkivum Perpetua's usability and preservation modules, based respectively on the open-source AtoM and Archivematica platforms. Digital Library Services was confronting roughly half a million files occupying about 75 TB, alongside floppy disks, CD-Rs, audiovisual carriers and born-digital material gathered from across the university. Much of this content still awaited curation, recovery and preservation work using BitCurator and Izolo, while the team was also preserving Special Collections material and preparing pilot research-data projects. The account presents Izolo as an implementation in progress rather than a completed migration, embedded in wider work on policy, rights, staffing and institutional responsibility. It is a South African university example of pairing archival access with preservation infrastructure at substantial scale.
