University of Thessaly

To manage and open up its historical collections, the University of Thessaly in Greece built an integrated, entirely open-source stack. Archivematica handles OAIS-compliant SIP and AIP processing and metadata enrichment; AtoM provides standards-based archival description; and VuFind serves as a fast, faceted public discovery layer on top. The project also drew on specialised metadata-extraction microservices to enrich the records. It demonstrates Archivematica working as the preservation foundation beneath a customised digital-humanities discovery environment — and adds a Southern European example to the growing record of institutions combining preservation, description and search from open components.
