South African Journal of Animal Science (SASAS)

The South African Journal of Animal Science (SAJAS), published since 1971, initially moved online in the early 2000s on a custom-built manuscript-submission system supported by the Agricultural Research Council. In August 2025, seeking long-term sustainability and better global indexing, the journal transitioned to the Public Knowledge Project's Open Journal Systems (PKP OJS), hosted by Khulisa Journals at the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) — gaining centralised technical stewardship and automated Crossref DOI registration. A South African example of retiring legacy custom code for a shared open-source journal platform.
