PALNI / PALCI — Hyku Commons

The Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI) and the Partnership for Academic Library Collaboration and Innovation (PALCI) built "Hyku Commons," a shared, multi-tenant institutional-repository service on Hyku, funded by multi-year IMLS grants. The service, which began as the "Hyku for Consortia" pilot, has transitioned to a full production repository service, with development continuing with support from Notch8. Its multi-tenant model increases affordability and flexibility, letting small member colleges — which could not justify running Ruby-on-Rails developers in-house — stand up fully branded institutional repositories on shared cloud infrastructure at radically lower cost than commercial platforms.
