Ediffah → AtoM

National Library of Sweden

The National Library of Sweden replaced its ageing Ediffah archival directory with AtoM, launching the service under the name 'Arken' to hold the personal archives of major Swedish cultural figures. The library chose AtoM for its open-source sustainability — avoiding vendor lock-in — its stronger digital-object display, and its ability to link authority data drawn from the national Libris database. AtoM's multilingual interface let the library present complex authority records in Swedish for local researchers while remaining accessible in English to international scholars. A national-library-scale European example prioritising open standards and deep integration with national authority services.
