Legacy repositories → Islandora 2

Lehigh University

Dissatisfied with siloed repositories spread across proprietary vendors, Lehigh University consolidated its institutional outputs and special collections onto Islandora, then moved to Islandora 2 amid concerns over Drupal 7's obsolescence. Running a Docker-based microservices architecture, the library exploited Islandora's event bus to bolt on custom enrichment — including automatically generating OpenAI-produced transcripts for audiovisual material — and deployed custom IIIF viewers. A US example of using modern Islandora's decoupled microservices to add AI-assisted processing to a digital repository.
