Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA)

The Irish Traditional Music Archive holds an immense audiovisual collection — over 97 terabytes of born-digital and digitised heritage — but has no large internal IT department. To protect its major investment in digitisation, ITMA adopted Arkivum's managed 'Perpetua' service, which runs Archivematica and AtoM, outsourcing server maintenance, updates and safeguarding of nearly 100TB of audiovisual data. That freed archivists to concentrate on curation and description, cataloguing through AtoM and a separate Soutron library system. It is a clear example of a specialist independent AV archive securing large, complex media collections through managed open-source-as-a-service rather than in-house administration.
