Re:discovery Proficio → ArchivesSpace

Illinois Institute of Technology — Paul V. Galvin Library

The Paul V. Galvin Library at the Illinois Institute of Technology managed roughly 1,500 collections in the legacy Re:discovery Proficio system, for which no standard ArchivesSpace migration plugin existed. The small team exported the data, used OpenRefine for large-scale metadata cleanup and authority reconciliation, mapped it to ArchivesSpace's JSON schemas, and ingested it programmatically with bulk POST requests through the REST API — bypassing the graphical interface entirely. The published account demonstrates that a modest staff can achieve high-fidelity migration from an unsupported proprietary system using open tools and scripting. A valuable model for repositories leaving niche legacy platforms.
