City of Vancouver Archives

The City of Vancouver Archives is where Archivematica began. Facing a growing volume of born-digital municipal records — more than 25 terabytes of mostly digital material, including the born-digital records of the 2010 Winter Olympics (VANOC) — and finding commercial preservation systems out of reach, the city partnered with Artefactual Systems to build an open-source, OAIS-compliant microservices pipeline using the PREMIS and METS standards. Used in production from an early (0.8) release and integrated with ICA-AtoM for public access, it proved municipal governments could achieve standards-based preservation without proprietary lock-in — the platform's founding deployment.
