University of Canterbury (UC QuakeStudies)

The University of Canterbury's Arts Digital Lab, working with Catalyst IT, migrated its QuakeStudies archive — the major record of the devastating 2010–2011 Canterbury earthquakes — into Islandora. Holding around 150,000 photographs, media articles and videos (with a portion restricted to approved researchers) and relying on precise, human-curated metadata including disaster geolocations, the new implementation gave researchers a cleaner interface and better document viewing while securing long-term preservation of critical disaster-response datasets. A New Zealand example of Islandora used for a large disaster-heritage archive.
