American Philosophical Society

The American Philosophical Society adopted Islandora to build its collaborative Revolutionary City portal and to improve stewardship of culturally sensitive Indigenous materials, working with the vendor Born-Digital. A grant-funded effort inventoried more than 130,000 images across the collections. Islandora's flexibility let APS implement the Protocols for Native American Archival Materials, using Drupal's role-based taxonomy permissions to restrict access to sensitive assets, while exposing Revolutionary-War material to partners via OAI-PMH and IIIF. A US independent-research-library example centred on ethical, permission-aware access control.
