Horizon → Koha

University of Montevallo — Carmichael Library

Carmichael Library at the University of Montevallo in Alabama migrated from a long-standing SirsiDynix Horizon installation to a supported, hosted instance of open-source Koha. The library evaluated its options carefully before committing, and used the move to escape the rising costs of its proprietary system. Documented in a published account by the library's own staff, it is a clear small-academic example of leaving a legacy commercial ILS for open source — and of the practical realities, including data-migration friction, that such a move involves.
