Adopted Mukurtu

Musée des Abénakis (Odanak)

The Musée des Abénakis at Odanak, Canada is implementing an instance of the open-source Mukurtu platform as part of the 'Advancing Pathways' collaboration around the Gordon Day Papers. Mukurtu lets the museum make collection descriptions available to researchers and community members while enforcing Indigenous protocols, and its Traditional Knowledge Labels and community-feedback features let the Abenaki community contextualise stories, songs and photographs on their own terms rather than through open-access museum defaults. A Canadian First Nations example of adopting Mukurtu for Indigenous-controlled description.
