ADLIB → Koha

Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS)

The library of the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, migrated its bibliographic data from the proprietary ADLIB system to open-source Koha. The move was motivated by a wish to escape high costs, restrictive licence agreements and a lack of control over the library's own data. The central difficulty was technical — ADLIB's exported data was poorly structured — so the systems team carefully remapped it to avoid loss. A valuable East African account of liberating a health-sciences catalogue from locked-in legacy software.
