bepress → DSpace

University of North Texas Health Science Center

The University of North Texas Health Science Center worked with the Texas Digital Library to migrate its scholarly outputs from bepress Digital Commons to a hosted DSpace instance. Because the source data was proprietary, the project harvested the bepress OAI-PMH feed, preprocessed the metadata, and ran a crosswalk designed with UNTHSC staff to prepare it for DSpace ingest. The result was an open-source repository that sidestepped the usual pitfalls of extracting data from a proprietary vendor. A useful technical template for institutions leaving bepress.
