Australian Research Data Commons — Curated Collections

The Australian Research Data Commons 'Curated Collections' project set out to rescue at-risk Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) and Indigenous data held on fragile bespoke and legacy platforms, migrating it to Omeka S. Omeka S was chosen because it adheres to FAIR data principles, handles complex media natively, and — crucially — lets researchers maintain the collections themselves after migration without ongoing specialist IT support, with the platform hosted on the Nectar Research Cloud. An Australian national-infrastructure example focused on sustainability and reducing long-term developer dependence.
