Self-hosted DSpace → hosted DSpace

Commonwealth of Learning

The Commonwealth of Learning, an intergovernmental organisation headquartered in Canada, migrated its heavily used 'OAsis' repository from a self-hosted DSpace setup to Atmire's Open Repository SaaS platform. Dedicated to expanding distance education across the Commonwealth, COL needed a stable, centralised home for over 5,000 open educational resources, working papers and reports. Given its intergovernmental status, strict GDPR compliance and robust data protection were primary drivers for moving to a managed host. The platform enforces Creative Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0) licensing on all content to maximise global educational reuse. An intergovernmental example prioritising compliance and reuse.
